- In Portugal we have a systemic/structural problem that is the lack of equal treatment/ opportunities for women and even worst, the fact that they are exposed to sexual harassment on a daily basis within the hospitality business. To help address these issues we´ve proposed a internship program for 10 young women students from our local hotel school that will allow them to be placed in several bars across the city over a period of three months, those bars will have agreed to a protocol that guarantees harassment free working environment and also equality of opportunities in future hiring possibilities with
- same salaries when compared to men in the same position. We´ve also reached out to different women who have made successful careers in hospitality that will work as mentors for the trainnees providing their insight earned by experience both in a more personal approach and how have they overcome specific issues directly related to the fact that they are women in a men dominated field, but also teaching valuable workshops that will be able to serve as added valuable to anyone willing to become a barmaid. We also believe that this sort of connection can and should grow stronger over time
- thus helping to create a solid sense of community for local women professionals.
Taste it for yourself.
